At the recent PowerOn 2025 conference, Abhison Innovations Pvt Ltd. Director and Women in the Global Battery Industry (WGBI) member Sayalee Sawant, shared valuable insights during a panel discussion on "The Role of Women in the Battery Industry."As a leader at Abhison Innovations Pvt Ltd., Sayalee brought forth perspectives on creating meaningful impact in this traditionally male-dominated sector.
"You need to be confident, believe in yourself and let your work speak for itself," Sayalee emphasized when discussing challenges in the industry.
During the discussion, Sayalee highlighted several key strategies for promoting gender diversity and inclusion in the battery industry. She stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism and fostering an equal opportunity environment, noting that while change takes time, confidence, mentorship, and letting one's work speak for itself are crucial elements of success.
"We should raise awareness. Show women what this industry has to offer, share success stories and then encourage more women to explore the industry."
Sayalee particularly highlighted her involvement with WGBI, an organization founded two years ago that now boasts nearly 300 female members globally. The organization, based in the United States, offers comprehensive support through various initiatives:
- Annual membership benefits including networking events at major industry conferences such as Battery Council International (BCI)’s annual Convention + Power Mart Expo (held this year in San Antonio Texas, May 4-7), European Lead Battery Conference, and Asian Battery Conference
- Carefully curated mentorship programs that match members with suitable mentors based on detailed profile analysis
- Leadership development opportunities and professional, global networking events
- Regular meetups with expanding chapters including a new presence in Latin America
"The mentorships they provide are amazing. Based on your profile and the mentor's profile, they take time and match you with the perfect mentor."
Sayalee also expressed her hope and enthusiasm for future expansion, particularly mentioning the possibility of establishing a chapter in India.
"We are empowering women, and it is also shaping an inclusive future for the battery industry."
Sayalee stressed that increasing women's participation in the battery industry requires raising awareness about opportunities within the sector, sharing success stories, and encouraging industry leaders to create inclusive workplaces with equal access and support for women. Through these combined efforts, she believes the industry can work toward a more inclusive and diverse future.
